The Rapid Development System (RDS), an NSF funded project was proposed for use in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum to teach ideas of the controlled design and automated fabrication of machine parts. From our perspective, the goals of our involvement were to evaluate how well the users came to accept the RDS technology, the extent to which the learning outcomes were achieved using the RD, and to identify issues with the RDS interface and how to overcome them in the next iteration.
