The Lab

The Laboratory for Information Technology Evaluation (LITE) is located in the Historic Bureau of Mines at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. The lab includes three rooms: the Research Assistant room, Eye Tracker Lab, and Usability Lab.

The Research Assistant room includes four computer work stations for LITE Graduate and Undergraduate research assistants. This space is intended for data analysis and day-to-day lab related activities. Although, we do have a refrigerator, microwave, and beanbag chair to ensure our research assistants have some comfort and sustenance while they work.

The Eye Tracker Lab has a state-of-the-art monitor that records the eye movement of the participant using the computer. This allows analysis of web sites, software, and other computer applications by recording where the participant is reading, gazing, and searching various screens. This lab is the most frequently utilized and rented across departments due to its powerful analysis capabilities.  The Eye Tracker Lab is shared with the Materials Research Lab.  To see a video demonstration of the Eye Tracker equipment and software, click here.  To see a video of a sample web stimulus, click here.

The Usability Lab contains five workstations with equipment to record the user's skin conductance and heart rate using biofeedback devices attached to the user's fingertips. Each station also contains equipment that can record the user's face and voice while they interact with a software instructing them through various researcher-designated tasks. This allows for a detailed qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the usability of a wide variety of software.
